Flow, River, Flow

There's somethin' 'bout the river at night. Especially in the fall when there's a nip in the air and the scent of fajitas wafting in the breeze, like last night.

It may be the sight of the huge ships in the dry docks,

or it may be the smell of the fajitas.

It may be the pretty lights reflecting on the water,

but it's probably the fajitas.

Love that little Mexican restaurant on the river.

We took our friends to it last night. And then walked along the river, working off a good .5% of the meal. Probably about one tortilla chip's worth.

It's a dirty river, but I don't care as long as no one pushes me in or serves it as a beverage. I can smell its saltiness from home sometimes when the wind is right, and I can hear the ferry horn blow. (And some mornings, at 8am sharp, I hear "Reveille" played from some nearby military post. Makes me feel like I'm back at summer camp!)

Cranes are a permanent fixture on the horizon, loading and unloading ships, lifting and moving parts for repairs.

In the summer, the fireworks and city lights combine for a great show.

All in all, it's nice to live near a river. But it's nothing compared to the river I'll someday live near,

the river of the water of life,
as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb
down the middle of the great street of the city.
No longer will there be any curse.
The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city,
and his servants will serve him.
They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
There will be no more night.
They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun,
for the Lord God will give them light.
Behold, I am coming soon!
Whoever is thirsty, let him come;
and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.

Shine, Jesus, shine.

Beautiful pics! Nice job on the meme, by the way. I haven't had much time to read blogs lately but I'm getting caught up today.
