Quick Update (Before I Conk Out)

And I ain't kiddin' about conking out; I'm straddling the Sleepyland fence.

Mike is doing much better! His face looks better and he feels fine.

A nurse shuffled in yesterday and mumbled, "How's your face?"

It was such a vague question that he said, "I don't know how to answer that."

"Well, that's what you're in here for, isn't it?" she responded.

He got a little irritated.

"I mean, I don't know what you want to know. If you're asking whether it hurts, the answer is, 'Not on its own - if I press on it, it hurts some.' If you're asking if the redness has gone down, I don't know because I can't see my own face."

She got a little nicer after that. And a little less obfuscatory (I haven't given you a word-of-the-week for a good while).

Mike's white blood cell count is still high, so he can't come home yet, but we're hoping and praying that it'll drop enough for him to come home tomorrow. Whatever kind of bacterial infection it was, it was able to run rampant because of his compromised immune system, due to his arthritis medications.

A specialist that came by to see him today told him that he will look into alternative options for treating Mike's arthritis so that he can get off those treatments.

More tomorrow...I just fell off the fence. Zzzzzzzzzzz.

You have to wonder why the nurse was asking that, the patient isn't the expert on these medical issues! (Or she could have been making smalltalk, it's hard to tell when you are feeling crabby and just want to go home!!!) I hope Mike gets out of there on Saturday.

It's not only doctors who often lack bedside manner. I'm glad your husband stood up for himself and made her see her error. I'm glad to hear that he is at least feeling better and I pray that his white blood cell count continues to improve. We are pulling for you all!
